Will Rice College

will rice college application requirementsRice University comprises eleven separate residential colleges as part of a system that was established in 1957. Inspired by the collegiate system of the universities of Oxford and Cambridge, these colleges function as the primary housing for undergraduate students, with dining and social organization. One of the best of these colleges is Will Rice College.

Students are appointed to colleges randomly upon matriculation. They then become a lifetime member of their assigned college. This replaces the Greek system, and helps students to foster a sense of community – the university considers this an enviable environment for students of Rice. It is said that when students are asked from where they hail, they reply with the name of their college rather than their home state.will rice college application requirement

The residential colleges are arranged so that each is home to two College Masters and a faculty member with their spouse. The Masters are responsible for encouraging a variety of interests among the students, both cultural and intellectual. They also help to support a system of self-government, while also acting as liaisons between the residential college students and Whitaker college of health sciences and technology.

Rice University’s rankings are consistently high nationally. In 2013, the university was ranked 18th, nationally by US News & World Report. Will Rice College has a long list of notable alumni, and counts amongst its lifelong members CBS News President David Rhodes, in addition to MLB All-Star Lance Berkman, to name but a few.
